Context

As summer 2024 approached, a close friend launched an AI fashion startup, and I had the opportunity to join as the founding designer.

Collaborating directly with the CEO and AI researchers, in just three months, I played a pivotal role in shaping the product’s vision and bringing the inaugural release to life transforming the concept into a tangible product, driving the project from zero to one.

The Product

A powerful AI tool that empowers stylists to create hyper-personalized fashion recommendations, tailored to each client’s unique style and existing wardrobe.

Key Design Challenges

As a zero-to-one product under a fast environment, I needed create solutions fast, while communicating


  1. 1. Creating a system that can communicate the AI technology to a human user through intuitive interactions and response.
  2. 2. To ensure a swift release, balancing the design with limited front-end engineering effort without compromising the experience.
  3. 3. Ensuring the design framework shipped now could scale to large usecases for the future.

Progress so far

The product successfully launched with active integration and adoption by paying customers, demonstrating its immediate value and real-world impact.

Design

The vision began with delivering personalized fashion editorials directly to consumers but quickly pivoted to developing a B2B tool. From concept to launch, we brought the first release to market within just three months.

I led the design efforts, creating prototypes that effectively demonstrated the technology to investors. I also developed a scalable design system to support future growth and ensured seamless integration of the technology for paying clients and future usecases.

Intuitive Interaction

To demystify AI for unfamiliar users, I designed intuitive interactions that felt familiar and approachable, ensuring a seamless user experience that bridged complex technology with everyday usability.

Communicating Artifical Intelligence

A key design element for communicating AI to unfamiliar users was implementing a clear feedback loop. When users took an action that required AI processing, I ensured the interface provided real-time feedback, reassuring them that the system was actively generating results. This approach built trust and enhanced the user’s understanding of the technology’s functionality.

  2. Human-AI Collaboration Design for a partnership between users and AI by allowing users to guide, correct, or refine AI outputs. Ensure users feel in control and empowered rather than replaced by the technology.
  3. Iternations, Error Handling and Recovery Anticipate AI errors and provide clear, actionable paths for users to correct or recover from mistakes. Make the system forgiving and flexible to avoid frustration.

I created a scalable design system is essential for ensuring consistency, efficiency, and adaptability as products evolve. It establishes a cohesive visual language and reusable components, enabling faster iteration, seamless collaboration, and smooth integration of future features, all while maintaining a polished and unified user experience.
